SEO A layman's Guide: An SEO book for beginners
SEO A layman’s Guide: An SEO Book
SEO A layman’s guide was written because SEO is complex and daunting for most people, especially startups and small businesses without the resources to hire an expert or the time to research all the ins and outs.
So many companies are suffering from not having an SEO strategy, or being aware that they even need one. One of the most frustrating parts of being a small business owner is being continually surpassed in the search engine ranking. No one likes suffering through low website traffic and labouring away on ineffective ads.
The process for SEO is complicated, but it doesn’t have to be with this SEO book. Learn everything you need to know about SEO (search engine optimization), with my book: SEO a layman’s guide and get your website noticed!
A website is just a website! That is why you need SEO
Over the years I have built many websites for clients. I always inform them that a website is just a website. Nothing magical is going to happen to their business now that they have a website. A website is only magical when it is ranking on the first page of Google for the keywords, key terms, questions and phrases you believe, your customers will type or speak into Google. Purchasing a website or making your own is no guarantee of traffic. Spending time learning and applying best SEO practices is.
A website can be your best employee or your worst. It can work for you 24/7, 365 or it can sabotage you 24/7, 365. Take a moment to think about how many direct competitors you have, now add in large competitors, directories, forums, news sites etc.
Alexa (An Amazon company) only ranks the top 20 million websites worldwide. There is an estimated 1.9 billion websites live on the internet. To cut through the noise and rise up the rankings we apply the dark art of Search Engine Optimisation, or for those in the USA Search Engine Optimization.
The Goal of SEO
For me, my goal with SEO A layman’s guide was to write the best SEO book possible, a book that will help people understand all the varying and complex aspects of SEO, in a simple, applicable fashion. The goal of SEO is to rank higher, increase organic traffic, build backlinks, build a brand, embrace a holistic digital marketing strategy and ultimately increase profits and sales. This is why I wrote a book on SEO.
SEO for Growth
There are many books on SEO. So why write another? Why write SEO A layman’s guide?

As a web developer and designer, I found Robb’s take on the web and SEO refreshing rather than intimidating, giving me a way to learn, understand and develop my own skills and knowledge, while expanding my understanding of what it takes to grow my online business.
Having now set up an adventure tour company based on my 20 year experience as an adventure activity guide and tour developer (consolidating all my skills into one business).
I had some fantastic tours in some of the most scenic locations in Scotland, partnerships with some of the best chef’s and hotels but what I needed was customers – Robb helped my business become a reality.
Just building a website and having a few social media pages are not enough anymore – you need Robb (all be it in printed form) to help you compete, find your voice, and get in front of the right people.
Helping to take my online business presence to the next level, compete proactively, to ultimately engage and attract visitors/potential clients, Robb’s book SEO: A layman’s guide helped me turn my website & social media channels into productive team players in my small business empire, using a combination of elements to build up written and visual content to grow and develop my reach and ultimately my client base.
I can whole heartedly say that without Robb and the knowledge his book shares, my business would still be lost in the sandpit at the end of the internet, the proof is throughout my digital footprint and online products.

The Art Of SEO
Is SEO an art or a science? It could be argued that it is both. SEO is about pleasing both humans and computers. As humans we love websites that function well, look good and are easy to understand and navigate, this is the art of SEO. Computers on the other hand love information, they want to understand what the website is about, understand the code and in this respect, it could be argued that it is a science or technical discipline. Modern SEO is definitely both.
